Lutheran Homes Presents temi to Government Officials in South Australia

Lutheran Homes Barossa hosted officials from the government of South Australia, Chris Picton, the Health and Wellbeing Minister and Nat Cook, the Minister for Seniors and Ageing Well, for a presentation of temi during their “Robotics in Aged Care” event.

CEO Lee Martin organised the event to demonstrate how personal robot assistants could be integrated into aged care environments. The team allowed temi to conduct facility tours directly.

The robot guided the officials and healthcare executives through the facility, engaging with residents and showing how it navigates around wheelchairs and walking frames. The Ministers got to see residents actively using temi – asking it questions, having conversations, and getting help with daily tasks.

Dr Edward (Ted) Mah and Mario Andreacchio from MAITs partnered with Omni-Health to highlight temi’s capabilities. The robot performed various functions, including wayfinding, entertainment, and communication services, validating its suitability for aged care applications.

Members of the Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health (CEIH) participated in subsequent discussions about the practical applications of robots in aged care. They talked about how temi could help with staff workload while providing residents with social interaction and family connectivity through video calling.

The collaboration between Lutheran Homes Barossa and Omni-Health establishes a Centre of Excellence for robotics in aged care. The event showed ministers and healthcare leaders that robots like temi aren’t replacing human care – they’re making it easier for staff to focus on what matters most while giving residents extra support when they need it.

The partnership between Lutheran Homes Barossa and Omni-Health established a Centre of Excellence for aged care robotics.

The event provided government representatives and healthcare professionals with evidence that temi robots complement human care delivery by enabling staff to concentrate on critical responsibilities while offering residents additional support resources.
